YouTube and SEO

Post 15 of 36

Can youtube help SEO?YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, in the words of Michael Caine “Not a lot of people know that!”

Is YouTube good for SEO?

In a word yes and for several reasons, If uploaded correctly YouTube videos can provide a good link back to your site. In addition it’s always good to “be everywhere” ¬†and YouTube is one of the places you should be.

Youtube video content isn’t visible to the Google software but the page content is. It’s important to use each opportunity on that upload page to it’s full extent. I’ll be blogging about this more in the future.

YouTube is just another SEO tool

YouTube should be considered another tool in your SEO arsenal. The content of your video can be whatever you choose, from an instructional video to a short intro video like the one on this page. Instructional videos can be amateur or professional depending on your business and the subject matter.

From a personal point of view I think an amateur video is more honest and endearing. See my post about honesty as a marketing tool. Most modern mobile phones are able to capture HD video. This can be more than adequate for instructional or how to videos and I’ve used them before successfully. For more professional video you can hire a professional videographer for a reasonable fee who will produce a corporate video with a professional look.

An introduction video is a great way to bring your website to life. If you like the one on this page then contact us. We can put one together for less than you think. YouTube and SEO go hand in hand. If you’re not exploiting this already then you’re missing a trick.

Oh I like your vid, who did it for you?
It’s interesting what you said about amateur video. Many businesses I speak with feel they need the full professionally directed mini movie. It’s not the case, simple videos can and do drive traffic back to your website. It’s more than the link, it’s potential customers – just from having a chat on video. Sounds simple and it is.

    Hi Jan,

It’s a new low cost service that we offer to local businesses.

Funnily enough, I get the same from many businesses that I deal with too. I really believe that an amateur video brings a certain honesty. I helped to put together some “how to” videos for a local company that sells online across the UK. They sell made to measure products and so we shot a few videos explaining how to order and measure. The videos get lots of hits and comments from people who have found them really helpful. We used an iPhone to film the videos and filmed on location in the business owners home. Simple yet effective.
